We are delighted to announce that Mark Liu has been selected for the Surface Bursary 08/09.The bursary is designed to help support artists and designers to make the transition from college to life as a professional practitioner.
Mark graduated from Textiles Futures MA course at Central Saint Martins in 2007 having previously completed his Fashion and Textiles BA at the University of Technology Sydney in 2004.
Mark's fashion collections revolutionise pattern cutting combining eco-friendly and aesthetically high standards, a technique he has named "Zero Waste Fashion". With standard pattern cutting approximately 15% of the fabric is wasted per garment cut. His passion for eco-sustainability to push the boundaries of fashion through innovative textile design knows no bounds, as his plans for an ecological Surface Bursary scheme 08/09 will prove.
Mark has already launched his own fashion label, which has been seen at 'Estethica' the environmentally friendly part of London Fashion Week. Currently, he is working on a winter collection for new upcoming eco concept store 'Love Life Stories' and will showcase his work as part of 'Shanghai Weekend' at the V&A in 2009.
Mark will receive £2,500 towards new work, one-to-one support, access to LPT's textile print resource and free studio space at ASC Studios in Brixton throughout the next year.
The Surface Bursary Scheme is a partnership with ASC Studios and has been kindly funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
