An Ideal Home

An Ideal Home was a collaboration between London Printworks, Atelier van Lieshout, Zoë Walker and the V&A.

Two important new artworks were commissioned that examined an ideal urban space for living. Walker’s My Island Home was a portable floating environment that she could take to all parts of the world in an attempt to combat bouts of homesickness. •• Atelier van Lieshout responded with flag, money, constitution. All the works relate to AVL-Ville, a freestate set up by the group in their native Rotterdam. It comprises a distillation of elements required to launch a new republic : a national flag, a system of currency and an index for successful living as a member of the new state. •• The artists also led a series of practical workshops with a local children’s home and inmates at Brixton Prison, all of whom occupy radically different, institutional homes.
